Potomac Falls Runs Away With Dulles District Wrestling Championship; Pride Takes Second
Pride's Smith upends PF's Rowane at 119 in match-up of two of the top wrestlers in state
By J.J. Totaro
LoudounPrepSports Wrestling Writer
Sterling (Feb. 17, 2008) - This year’s AA Dulles district wrestling tournaments was one of the most unusual ever and one that will not soon be forgotten. From the coaches meeting to the finals, the tournament was filled with twists and turns, some usually only found in a horror story or suspense drama.
... The ultimate match of the night was Justin Smith (Heritage) and Paul Rowane (Potomac Falls). Both men are ranked in the state at 119, both have district championships and they were facing off again. In the past Rowane had taken each match, but Saturday night had something else in store as Smith wrestled a near perfect match to defeat Rowane 3-0. This championship makes Smith eligible to be a 4-time Dulles district champion, if he were to win next year.
... Potomac Falls Panthers wont he team title with 182.5 points. In second was Heritage with 130.5 and Briar Woods with 125 points. The tournament win capped an undefeated dual meet season for the Panthers.
LPS Survival Guide to the District wrestling Tournament
Decision Day: 2007-08 Dulles District Wrestling Tournament Scheduled for Sat. at Dominion
(Feb. 13, 2008) - With the Dulles District wrestling tournament quickly approaching, we look at where wrestlers are seeded and what the possible outcomes may be. The team points could come down to any one of four teams winning it all.
The favorite, due to past record and some strong wrestlers, is Potomac Falls. Two of their starters qualified for states last year, and they are looking to do it again. Broad Run and Briar Woods also both have shots due to five or six strong starters. Lurking behind all three is Heritage who is looking to surprise a few people in a couple of classes in hopes of making a run to be the tournament title.
It will all come down to what team can put their wrestlers into the finals. Looking at the seeds, Potomac Falls has 12 wrestlers in the top four and 10 as either first or second seed. Briar Woods has 11 seeded wrestlers and Park View has nine. Heritage is also in the running with seven seeded, but anything can happen when you get to the district tournament.

Potomac Falls and Broad Run Still Undefeated After Dulles District Double Dual Showdown
Defending District Champs Titans Fall Twice
Sterling (Jan. 18, 2007) - It was noted, tongue-in-cheek, in Wednesday's program that the Puterio brothers, coach John Puterio of Broad Run and coach Rob Puterio of Potomac Falls, would not wrestle each other as part the evenings festivities.
Bragging rights for the 2006-07 AA Dulles District dual meet season, however, will come down to the siblings two teams as both the Spartans and Panthers were able to defeat defending district champion Dominion at the double dual meet.
Potomac Falls improved to 4-0 in district dual meets with a 45-23 win over Dominion and a 49-21 win over Loudoun County. Broad Run also sports a 4-0 mark with victories over Dominion, 37-35, and Loudoun County, 54-17.
Despite Wednesday's results, the Titans chances at repeating its district meet title are solid as Potomac Falls appears likely to be missing the services at the meet of defending district champions Blaise Ruffing (285) and Nick Stewart (119), who are both out with injuries.
